The Science Museums of China

The Science Museums
of China Headquarters

Supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) , Science Museums of China (SMC) was set up as a comprehensive website cherishing the goals of spreading scientific knowledge, advocating scientific methodology and carrying forward scientific spirit.

Taking advantage of the scientific resources of database and talents owned by CAS, SMC is made up of a cluster of virtual science museums covering various areas of disciplines. SMC is Maintained by the Computer Network Information Center of CAS, and depends on China S&T Net (CSTNet) as its platform.

Since SMC was formally opened to the public on 25 October 1999, the virtual science museums have developed from 4 to more than 30 covering astronomy, seismology, limnology, atmospheric science, botany, oceanography, entomology, mineralogy, aeronautics, etc., thus they have become the largest and most outstanding virtual museums cluster in China. In view of the increasing visits, apart from the main site in Beijing, mirrors were set up in Nanjing, Dalian, Tianjin as well as a big5 Chinese mirror in Taiwan. Now the English version is emerging out of water.
