To whom this may be concerned,

Welcome to Panda-Camera Channel of the Virtual Science Museums of China!

I think people all over the world share the love for giant pandas, but not everyone knows enough about them. A friend told me some foreign kids don't know what pandas eat. No matter you are children or adult, we want to tell you something about the pandas and the scientists doing research with them. We want pandas to be understood.

So this time the remote web-camera will take you to the Panda's Kindergarten of China Research and Conservation Center for Giant Panda in Wolong Nature Reserve, a land of wonder without human interference and far away from big cities. Located at the joint of Qionglai and Minshan Mountains in Sichuan Province of China, the Wolong Nature Reserve is one of the most famous shelters for giant pandas and has a strong appeal to the scientists, explorers and visitors from every corner of the world.

After getting a password from the system manager, you will be able to watch 6 panda cubs in real time by controlling the interactive camera that pan, tilt, and zoom. You could also keep the best moments and memories with the streaming video recording software. And you are encouraged to tell us your own feelings and discoveries. With any story you want to share, please send it to chenyu@sdb.cnic.cn

No pains, no gains. Many people share the pains for building this channel. The basic idea was proposed by the Computer Network Information Center at Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Information Technology in Science Center for Teaching and Learning at Texas A&M University. Scientists and staff of the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda also join the effort. I’m not going to give a specific name list, because it will be a very long list.

Last but not least, I want to add two points. First, the 6 panda brothers and sister are good kids and sleep on time everyday. And they say: “please visit us during 7am to 8:30am, 10am to 12am, 2:30pm to 5pm, Beijing time.” Second, I guess some are familiar with Ms. Hua Mei, the American born giant panda sent to Wolong from the San Diego Zoo. You will be able to interact with her twin babies in the Kindergarten with the web-camera. Let's Go!

Have a nice trip ^_^
