Tea Cup of Jizhou Kiln

Jizhou kiln makes ceramic white ware, celadon and white glazed black decorated ware, among which black porcelain is the most famous and the most extraordinary. The representative works of Jizhou Kiln is fired with creative turtle shell glaze. Turtle shell glaze is decorated with pale yellow mottles on black brown glaze, which is as beautiful as turtle shells.

Turtle shell glaze bowlCollected in Tokyo National Museum of Japan, this piece is made in the Southern Song Dynasty, 6.2cm in height, 11.6cm in caliber. It has open top, oblate and vertical belly, small cake ring foot, and it is called "Douli Bowl" in proverb. The inside and outside of bowl are both glazed, the glaze layer is quite thick. The ground glaze is filled with complicated and confused fulvous streaks with various shapes, which are similar to turtle-shell. It is only produced by Jizhou ware of the Song Dynasty.

Collected in Jiangxi Provincial Museum, this piece is made in the Northern Song Dynasty, 6cm in height, 15cm in caliber, 4 foot in diameter. It has open top, oblate belly wall, and short ring foot. Black glaze is decorated with withered and yellow tree leaf, which looks like a tree leaf of Buddha touching down slowly in late autumn between gray heaven and earth.

Collected in Jiangxi Provincial Museum, this piece is made in the Song Dynasty, 6cm in height, 12 cm in caliber, 4cm in foot diameter. It has open top, oblate belly wall, shallow belly and short ring foot. The whole body is applied with fulvous variegated glaze; the ring foot is not glazed. The inside part is decorated with three applique-flying phoenixes; the middle of bowl is printed with one flower design.
