The sea of clouds over Palong Zangbo River - a glance at the moisture passage

กกกกWhen we look at the map of Asia, we can see there is a green corridor stretching from the river valleys of Brahmaputra River and Yarlung Zangbo River towards the southeast of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The above-mentioned Yarlung Zangbo Canyon is an important part of this green corridor. The deeply cut Yalazangbu Canyon is like a gateway in the southeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It faces Bengal Bay and the remote Indian Ocean in the south, and it provides a natural corridor for the warm and humid air current of the Indian Ocean to enter the Plateau. It's really a coincidence, because there is a rainfall belt right along this green corridor. It looks like a "wed tongue" stretching to the southeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The 1000 mm precipitation line stretches straightly to the northern tip of the Yarlung Zangbo Bend from Burma and Bangladesh. The 3 centers where the annual precipitation are over 4000 mm separately locate in Yarlung Zangbo Canyon, the south of Kaxi Mountain in India on the south bank of Brahmaputra River, and coastal areas of Bengal Bay. Among them, the annual precipitation in Qilapenqi Station in the southern foot of Kaxi Mountain is as mush as more than 10000 mm, which is the maximum precipitation in the world. All these testify that the said green corridor is probably an important moisture passage.
