Chief Editor—Mr. Guo Huijun

Mr. Guo was graduated from the Geology Department of Hunan Normal University. From 1984 to 1986, Mr. Guo worked as an intern researcher in Kunming Botanical Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1989, Mr. Guo acquired his master’s degree from Kunming Botanical Research Institute. From 1989 to 1995, he was an associate researcher and professor in the same unit; in 1990, as a visiting scholar, Mr. Guo paid a visit to the Oriental Center in Hawaii of America; in November of 1995, he was the assistant president, and associate professor in Kunming Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In January of 2000, Mr. Guo became the deputy president of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and at the same time, a professor. Guo Huijun is a standing member of Yunnan Youth Association, director of Yunnan Botanical Society, and director of Yunnan Geology Society. He is also a consultant of the UN University, the member of the Biological Diversity Expert Guidance Group of the Global Environment Fund/the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the “PLEC Plan” of the UN University. 

From 1990 to 1997, Mr. Guo has successively presided projects such as “Yunnan Agricultural Biological Diversity Protection and Countryside Sustainable Development Project (UNEP and UN University)”, “Xishuangbanna Social Economic Development and Biological Diversity Change (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Oganization)”, Yunnan Agricultural Mingled Forestry Research and Experimental Model (Ford Fund of America), the Mount Gaoligong Forestry Resource Management and Biological Diversiy Protection (Macarthur Fund of America). Mr. Guo has published over 50 essays in Chinese and international publications and on international conferences, and 6 volumes of specialized books. Of which, The Biological Diversified Life Forms of Yunnan (coauthored with Long Chunlin) was awarded the first prize of 2000 Southwest & Northwest China Book Show, Plants of Mount Gaoligong (coauthored with Li Heng and Daozhiliang) was awarded the Second Yunnan Natural Science Prize, and Position and Function of the Botanical Garden in Popular Science Education (coauthored with Xu Zaifu) was awarded the prize for outstanding essays in International Conference on Science Communication · 2002 China.

Mr. Guo’s works and scientific results such as Survey and Research on the Mingled Agricultural Forestry in Baoshan District of Yunnan Province, Forestry Resource Management in Mount Gaoligong and Biological Diversity Protection, and Diversified Plant Life Forms in Mount Gaoligong have got appraisal of the provincial and the ministerial levels. Of them, “Agricultural and Biological Diversity Concept and Appraisal Methods” that jointly raised by Guo Huijun and his colleagues in 1995 has been now applied in more than 20 countries and districts in Africa and the Asian Pacific region. The “Farmer Association on Biological Diversity Protection of Mount Gaoligong (initiated by Guo Huijun) is the first environment protection organization of farmers in China, and it is praised as “setting up an example for the public to participate in environment protection” by the newspaper China Environment.
