Park of Folks & Plants

Park of Folks & Plants

The study on ethical plants is a science for studying the relationship in-between human beings and plants, and it mainly works over the relationship in-between small and ancient minorities, which have been less touched by modern cultures, the plants relate with them as well as their living environments. Since the imbalance in the developments of all ethic groups, most countries of the world consist more than one nation; and small minorities, which only account for a small portion of the total population, usually distribute in vast frontier areas, where the most diversified living creatures live. Accompanying the increase in population and the development of urbanization, the diversified living creatures on which these ethic groups rely for survival are disappearing at a speed never seen before, and this is the most serious challenge ever faced by human beings in the history. Nowadays, more and more people come to realize that the protection over the diversification of living creatures has close relations with the protection over ethical cultures; therefore, the study on ethical plants emerged as the times require.

A Museum under Construction

Xishuangbanna is a place where ethic groups live in compact communities, 13 ethic groups including the Dai, the Hani, the Jinuo, and the Bulang peoples live in the dense tropical forests for a very long time. They live together with the forests and engender colorful and varied plant cultures.

At the time of establishment, the Tropical Botanical Garden put sufficient emphasis on the study of the ethical botany. In the 1980s,China carried out systematic and overall studies on ethical plants and made important achievements. In order to display these results sufficiently, the Tropical Botanical Garden constructed the Park of Folks & Plants in 1992.
